Visit Choquequirao Before Major Changes

Little known to the world, the ancient Peruvian city of Choquequirao is often referred to as Machu Picchu's sister city. Travelers have been able to avoid the crowds of Machu Picchu and discover the amazing 15th century Choquequirao ruins located in the Salkantay Mountain Range. Those up for the strenuous trek that takes two days of hiking each way will not be disappointed by their reward of stunning vistas, gorgeous campsites, and the liberty to explore the mysterious Inca ruins.

This ancient city is about to undergo some definitive changes, however. By the end of 2015, the Peruvian government plans to build the first aerial tramway in the country to none other than Choquequirao. It is anticipated that this tramway will deliver up to 3,000 people to the area each day. Currently visited by just a handful of travelers per week, the rugged Choquequirao ruins are in for a big shock. Therefore, this is perhaps the last year for travelers to experience the ruins in their current state.
