SpiceRoads delves deeper into Indonesia with the launch of Sulawesi Adventure.
SpiceRoads Cycle Tours, the leading bicycle operator in Asia for more than a decade, has launched a tour in Sulawesi, Indonesia. On this 9-day adventure riders will discover its astonishingly diverse geography from the highlands which are home to the mysterious Torajans, to the beaches of the Bugis people while learning about Sulawesi's fascinating culture and customs.
“Sulawesi is a perfect for anyone who wants to delve deep into Indonesia and explore an area more off-the-beaten-track than its more popular neighbours of Bali and Java. The ecosystems are rich and varied, the people friendly and the terrain diverse,” says Struan Robertson, CEO SpiceRoads Cycle Tours.
The Route
Sulawesi Adventure starts in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi a multi-ethnic city, before heading over the central mountain range and across rice plains to the port of Poso. The highlight of the tour will be exploring the most charismatic places of the Tana Toraja Region, starting with a visit to Kete Kesu; one of the oldest ethnic Torajan villages. Hugging the coast, the tour then heads north through lush rice paddies and towering coconut plantations to the Central Sulawesi province in the mountains south of the serene Lak Poso. The tour ends at the coastal town of Poso - which is also one of the biggest and oldest towns in the province.
The Highlights
