BikeHike Adventures announces a brand new cycling adventure across Cuba. The 9-day biking journey will kick off on May 4th 2013 for the first time since Trish Sare (BikeHike Founder and Director) personally built the tour in February 2012. The itinerary is set in Central Cuba, inviting international riders to traverse from town to town exposing the culturally explosive Cuban lifestyle.
"Cuba is like nowhere else I've cycled," said Trish Sare. "In a lot of ways, the true Cuba remains a mystery to the majority of North Americans. I want to share Cuba from a cyclist's perspective."
Beginning in Havana, cyclists cross to the southern coast of Cuba towards Trinidad before heading north to Santa Clara. Stops include Cienfuegos, Zapata Peninsula, and the Bay of Pigs. Roads are relatively car free, as biking is the transportation of choice for many Cuban locals. This opens up the terrain to a cycler's heaven few North American's expect to find.
Travellers can expect to ride between 60km and 100km each day. The route is on undulating paved roads, offering cyclists a variety of inclines and scenic perspectives. Meals are served in local paladars (family-run restaurants) and nights are spent in comfortable hotels. The goal is to expunge an authentic Cuban experience by touching the local scene and steering clear of resort locations.
"We have carefully crafted this adventure to reflect both high-energy cycling and genuine Cuban flare. This is an experience offered nowhere else," reflected Trish Sare.
Cuba cycling tours depart May 4-12 and Nov 23-Dec 1, 2013. Trip costs start at $2,399 CAD (land only). No single supplement fees are charged to solo travellers.
