Farming and small-scale agriculture is at the heart of many nations, and this is especially true in Panama and Nicaragua where the production of coffee, cacao and tobacco have been a backbone for over a century. Despite advances in technology, many of the techniques used have barely changed since those early days, and stepping into a traditional farming community can seem like going back to another era.
In recent years, farms and plantations have begun to open their gates to interested travelers, offering an insight into local life and the chance to try their hand at production methods handed down through generations, as well as some of the freshest and most delicious tasting samples!

COFFEE EXPERIENCE - PANAMA
The Jaramillo region is home to some of the best-known organic coffee producers in Panama, exporting their products worldwide. During this tour you'll visit one of these farms (or "fincas") learn about the whole process behind organic coffee production, including a little insight into the famous Geisha Coffee variety. Depending on the season you might be allowed to try your hand at roasting the beans, and of course you'll be able taste their delicious coffee straight from the source. You'll also learn how coffee production at the farm is helping the indigenous community, Ngobe Buglé, before being transferred back to your hotel.
TOBACCO PLANTATION - NICARAGUA
The Esteli region is home to some of the best-known Cuban-leaf tobacco producers in Nicaragua, exporting their products worldwide. During this tour you'll visit one of these plantations and learn all about Nicaragua's premium cigar industry. Start at a local tobacco plantation to see how the best leaves are grown and harvested. Then you'll continue to the factory to witness the artisanal cigar making process, where you can take photos and learn how to make cigars, rolling your own, before being transferred back to your hotel.
