This Snow Leopard in the Nepal Himalayas is beautifully camouflaged if it doesn't stick its tongue out!
Rare and very elusive, the Snow Leopard epitomises the wilderness of the high Himalayas.
Most hikers in the Nepalese Himalayas never see this beautiful big cat. Not only are they rare, but they are also exceptionally well-camouflaged and can have a territory as large as 2500 sq km!
To see a wild Snow Leopard in the Himalayas requires a lot of physical effort, as well as a fair bit of hardship due to the harsh, high-altitude wild places the Snow Leopard calls "home."
A sighting as with any elusive creature requires a fair bit of good luck too.
Trekking in remote Snow Leopard "hot spot" areas like Dolpo and Upper Mustang does sometimes lead to the occasional sighting or evidence of Snow Leopard activity.
Other areas include Naar Phu a relatively uninhabited area not too far from the Annapurna Circuit Trek
